Santa Barbara Unified School District received a $4,800 grant from the Fund for Santa Barbara to host the 2nd Annual Latino Fatherhood Forum also known as Qué Padre Ser Padre this October at Santa Barbara Junior High School. The grant will support the Forum’s keynote speaker, interpreters, child care, and food/hospitality.
“Santa Barbara Unified School District is proud to be a partner of this 2nd Annual Latino Fatherhood Forum,” said Debi Badger, Santa Barbara Unified School District’s After School/Expanded Learning Program Director. “This forum supports empowering fathers and father figures to understand how to navigate the educational system and what they can do to support their child.”
The 2nd Annual Latino Fatherhood Forum will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Santa Barbara Junior High School. It is a one-day forum for fathers i.e. stepfathers, male partners, grandfathers, uncles of students, and all father figures in a child’s life. The forum is made possible through a community partnership between Santa Barbara Unified School District, City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation, Community Action Committee, United Parents/Padres Unidos, Santa Barbara City College, Santa Barbara Police Department, Just Communities, and Housing Authority of Santa Barbara.
In speaking about the success of last year’s forum, Sal Güereña of United Parents/Padres Unidos said, “It was obvious that the men who attended this forum felt its impact. They caught the vision of why they are so incredibly important for their children to be able to thrive at home and at school.”
