Well, now we have another thing to worry about: camping, concerning the homicide at Malibu State Park though in reality camping has always been unsafe. People don’t seem to consider what could happen when they are asleep outside under the stars. I used to camp out with people here in Santa Barbara when I was younger that I thought were cool, I was a naive young man. I had over $500 in cash on me one night in 1980 when my so-called buddies were gonna gut me like a fish and rob me on City College Hill overlooking the Marina. At least it would have been a beautiful place to die. It was a foggy night, the mist woke me up then I heard them talking. One guy said to the other something like “Do you think he is going to feel it when you stick him?” The other guy his name was Jack says “Who cares he will be asleep.” Dirty dogs I thought, I went to work every day and these bums panhandled. They both had their backs to me it’s too bad they were not on the edge of the cliff I could have given them both a little shove instead I yawned loudly got part way up and rolled off the side of the hill. I banged my ribs on a rock about 12 feet down and thought I was going to die it hurt so friggen bad at the bottom. I landed on my feet and hobbled off in pain leaving all my stuff minus my cash with the Thugs. I spent the rest of the night in Sambos drinking coffee. I never saw Jack again but the other guy was a member of AA here in Santa Barbara for years, he never apologized. I put myself in a lot of bad situations in my life but someone was always watching over me.
I used to have a buddy who moved here from Chicago who camped in the Santa Barbara back country alot and always packed a couple guns when he went. He invited me but I was a little suspicious of him anyway so never went camping with him, don’t think I’d be here if I did. I did sleep out after that bad experience but only with others never alone and not with bums, only others who worked or were willing to work. I googled Camping Homicides and there were alot of websites with the story of this man a Father of two children who were in the tent with him when he was shot it is a very tragic homicide. This father shot while asleep, his children right there with him. If the killer, or killers were the people who also shot cars and other objects other times in that park it seems they were testing the waters of committing homicide by shooting objects, in their mind they shot a tent not a human being, There was another shooting after this one, I heard a car was hit now the park is closed. One of the things I looked at that I Googled was a question on Quora, “How do I avoid being killed by a serial killer or murder hobos etc. While sleeping in my tent alone in the woods after a day of hiking in Eastern Europe?” Interesting Murder hobos? I’d say don’t go camping but then again our time could come anywhere and it does and camping is fun. Though I cannot sleep on the ground anymore and haven’t camped since my last drink.
I remember one night I was with Magruder and Company on the side of the 101 Southbound over looking Milpas street when he said to me “Don’t you have a place to live?” I did but I was drunk and so much more comfortable there with them I still remember his dog Brandy she was such a good old gal. Camping out with Magruder, Don, and Hopper, was fun especially when they got drunk and sang their number one hit “We got Lice” to the tune of Three Blind Mice. I miss the old days and Belinda too. For those of you who go camping, will this homicide affect your camping activities? Will you be more cautious? Or are you already? Do you have advice for other campers if you do feel free to share it.

Thank you Roger for all your Sage advice. I love camping, and will continue. If you research the doctor who got shot, he’d recently published a paper blowing the whistle on vaccine toxicity. Not a random killing at all.
