Well here we are, the end of anutter week. I have been flashing on my early years a lot lately checking out the history of my hometown on the internet and discovering some things. Lost or forgotten times that were not so bad. I think of my grandparents a lot because most of the best times I had were spent with them. Whenever I went to their house I’d hang out in the hood, sometimes I’d have a little money and I’d go visit Conkey Street. On Conkey street were several places I visited on a pretty regular basis, there was Superior Bakery brownies with frosting were .7 cents, Creme horns, Strawberry tarts, pies, cakes, strudel, an array of other sweets could be and were devoured cheap. A barber shop next door had a vending machine with bottled pop .10 cents each. McCoys Pharmacy where penny candy was a penny then to my favorite place on Conkey Street “Lucy’s Junk Store.” She had it all and today the stuff she had in that store would have made her wealthy though Lucy was already wealthy in another way, she had friends and I was one of them. My Mom told me to stay away from Lucy because she thought Lucy was a Dirty Old Lady but she was never Dirty to me. She was very nice and paperback books were a dime each or three for a quarter same with comic books. Old playboys were a buck each and she hid them behind the counter. She had all these little statues on the shelves, and baseball cards, shot glasses, tourist souvenirs from all over the United States, Elvis things, Records, Military stuff, coins, stamps. She had a lot of stuff in her little shop I bought paperbacks I loved to read I was pretty good at all that back then got OK grades in school even my Math and Grammar was good I lost alot when I got meningitis before that I did ok in school except for getting my ass kicked all the time. I did a lot to try and get friends it did not seem to matter what I did or who I would try and buy off I had no friends….. Well except for the others who had no friends, If the school had a special bus we all would have rode it together.. I had a few Adult friends when I was a little kid they were adults who were Good People and looked out for little kids. Back then adults acted like adults and not like they are acting now. Times were always tough there were bad times and good times too Reflection is good. The other day someone posted a picture of Lucy in her Junk Shop. I don’t know how old she was probably in her 60’s she’d be in her 120’s if she was around today, Maybe 130ish…I sure miss her I doubt there is a Heaven with all I’m hearing today but if there was a Heaven wouldn’t it be nice if it was where we lived all the best things in our past lives with all the folks also in Heaven reliving all the best things in their past lives together? Will something like that. I Love Lucy.

Roger,
I love reading your reports. Thank you! Wish I could go back and give you a kinder childhood but I guess it is what made you are today, a man that enjoys cotton tailed bunnies and baby squirrels. Keep it up, you are much appreciated.
They can dish it out and that’s about it.
Concur. Roger, you are the reason we read Edhat. Thank you!
