Scanner Reports 10-9-17

Well I hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was okay, the usual backache, bad gas, the never-ending chore of making my place look clean, ants, ants, ants.

Saw something on my TV the other night about being prepared in case you find yourself somewhere a gunman is. There was a time when I thought it would never happen here; that sort of thing don’t happen here, only in other places. It happened in 2006, then again in 2014. Both times I heard it on the scanner, and both times I thought it was some kind of SWAT drill because I never thought it could happen here. I saw a question on Facebook “What would you do if you were in the situation of being in the presence of a mass shooter?” I don’t think anyone knows what they would do. Try to survive, I guess. I read part of an article entitled How to Survive a mass shooting by Wes Siler on a website called Gizmodo’s. He said wearing clothing and shoes you can run in for a start, just in case you can get away. Well, I cannot run anymore, so that leaves me out. But there are other things. I might just accept the fact I’m older with arthritis and this is it. There would be no running. I’d have to find another way, or hope it’s fast. If I was to survive, I could help others. This part of a program was focusing on basic first aid; how to tie a tourniquet an inch or two above a bullet wound and very tight. I did not see much of the show after that but realized now that being prepared for a mass shooting is just as important as being prepared for an earthquake or a fire, or any other natural disaster, as this UNnatural disaster of facing a gunman is becoming a natural disaster more each day in America.

There was a report of a teenager on a footbridge standing on the outside as if he was going to jump. SBPD responded and could not find anyone. They also checked all the other bridges in the area just in case the reporting party was wrong on reporting the correct location.

Medical call, fall victim in the library of Garden Court.
Medical call, code blue, at the Motel 6 on Mac Murray in Buellton. The person passed away, rest in peace.

Injury traffic accident, Cota at Chapala.
600 block of 5^th Street, traumatic injury.
Medical emergency, 100 block of South Canada.
Gunshot heard, 400 block of Oakley.
Non-injury hit and run investigation, 40 East Anapamu.
Male adult drinking alcohol in a grey Crown Victoria in the first block of North Alisos.
Female down next to the ATM at Union Bank, medics, 3400 block of State Street.
Eight juveniles ripped off a skateboard from Smart and Final. Last seen on Carpinteria Ave. I bet they look funny riding that thing.
Highway 101 at Fairview, female on the ground outside a grey sedan. Fire department and medics were responding.
Fight, 3700 block of Calle Real, 2 HMA’s left scene.
Vehicle vs a bicyclist, 6700 block of Trigo.

Check the welfare of a possibly suicidal subject in the 3400 block of Richland Drive.
Stolen Auto investigation, 600 block of Ash.
Trespassing, 2nd floor level of the Casino parking garage, Chumash Casino.
Fall victim at the Santa Maria Care Center, 1800 block of West Cook.
Attempted suicide in the 400 block of Glen Annie.
Baby with a leg stuck in a crib, 4800 block of Sanchez, Guadalupe.
Daddy took son’s firearm in the 4600 block of Shalom.
Subject walking around with what looks like a rifle sticking out of his backpack on Lillie Avenue in Carpinteria. Sounds like it was an Air Soft rifle.
Check the welfare of a male slumped over in a wheelchair at the new Arco station, 4000 block of State Street.
Vehicle into pedestrians in the 1300 block of State Street, near Carlito’s and Company.
Suspicious subjects taking pictures of vehicles in the first block of West Islay. Two white male adults associated with a flat black pickup truck.
Medical emergency, woman with a broken toe, 6500 Block of Pardall.
Drunk driver, black Nissan, Raiders sticker in back window. Exiting 101 northbound at State Street.
Traffic accident, vehicle into a tree then rolled over, 135 at Broadway.
Attempted auto theft, 200 block of East Islay. Hispanic female adult with neck tattoos, wearing all black, carrying a jar of change and keys.
On the Amtrak transmission: “There’s a crazy person dancing on the railroad tracks near the Santa Barbara Station. Watch out when you’re pulling in.”

SBPD call from Amtrak, check the welfare of a subject on the railroad tracks, wearing no shirt and jeans, they have a train coming in.
Drunk down behind De La Vina Liquor in the 2700 block of DLV. SBPD on scene requesting medics.
Garden at Islay, a drunk female walking north on Garden, with no shirt.
Aggressive panhandlers, 331 West Montecito.
Fall victim at Figourea Mountain Brewing in the back parking lot.
Gunshot victim, Canal Street at Signal Ave in Santa Maria.
Medical call for an unresponsive unconscious male, across from SMHS.
Drunk at Cottage, ready for the Sober Center.
Subject turning yellow after a fall, 500 block of East Boone.

Scanner Reports, Sunday:

Landlord/former tenant disturbance, in the 300 block of West Pedregosa.
Overdose call at Carls, 7 South Milpas. Fire department and medics were unable to locate subject, who called in afterward, saying they were ok. I think the subject was sleeping in the restaurant sitting up and someone called them in saying they were overdosing.
601 State Street, attempted suicide. Public Works responding for clean-up.
Shots fired from a backyard, 3400 block of Pinewood Road.
Vehicle vs pedestrian in the 3900 block of State Street, in front of Pet Co.
Assault at the Nugget on Carpinteria Ave. in Carpinteria.
Medical call for a stroke, 900 block of Chapala.
Brandishing a putty knife, subject was yelling he wanted to stab people. Later on it was called an assault, so maybe he did stab someone. Either way he went straight to county jail.
Fall victim, head injury, Oak Cottage 2nd Floor, 1820 DLV.
Drunk unable to walk, 100 block of West Carrillo.
Shots heard fired in the 700 block of Westwood, 2 reports.
Stolen auto investigation, 200 block of East Cota.
Fall victim on a bicycle injury, 5 miles up Gibraltar.
Injury traffic accident Los Olivos and Laguna, chest pains.
Injury accident, Bath at Cota, a Nissan and a Chevy Volt.
Check the welfare of a subject calling from the coin phone at MTD.
Reckless bicyclists, 4 or 5 of them, on the sidewalk westbound on Cabrillo from Calle Caesar Chavez. They don’t want to ride in the bike lane, but they don’t mind running pedestrians off the sidewalks.
Non injury accident, Haley at Bath Street.
Traffic hazard, deceased raccoon on the freeway, 101 northbound at Bath. Rest in peace.

Will that is all outta me for now. I did have a question for folks after reading a comment on Edhat over the weekend. Do people really think that deceased folks wait in their graves for something to piss them off from their former life so they can “roll in their graves”? If that is all the afterlife has to offer, I’m staying alive longer, because I am in the business of making the living miserable. Have a lovely Monday.
