On November 10, 2021, around 1:30am, the Santa Barbara Police Combined Communications Center received a report of a large fight involving multiple subjects in the 200 block of West Carrillo Street. It was reported one of the subjects was possibly armed with a knife.
Once officers arrived on scene, they were confronted with a highly agitated subject who threatened to fight officers. The subject, identified as Anthony Isaac Ramirez, 29-year-old Lompoc resident, refused to comply with officer’s verbal commands and was bleeding profusely from a hand injury.
Officers had to physically restrain Ramirez in order to take him into custody. During this time, he was combative, “bucking” his body, and refused to be placed inside a patrol vehicle once under arrest. Ramirez was so combative he was able to violently push one of the arresting officers causing them to lose their balance and strike their head on the metal quarter panel of a police vehicle. Ramirez pivoted and kicked the officer in the face while they were on the ground causing the officer to strike their head again on the police vehicle. The officer lost consciousness due to Ramirez’s attack.
Paramedics arrived on scene and officers were able to move Ramirez to a gurney where he was given sedatives so he could be safely transported via ambulance to Cottage Hospital and be treated for his hand injury.
The officer was also transported to Cottage Hospital Emergency Room to be treated for a facial injury, head trauma, and a possible concussion.
Ramirez was medically treated, cleared, and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail where he was booked for felony Battery on a Peace Officer, felony Battery Causing Great Bodily Injury, and felony Resisting / Attacking a Peace Officer with Violence. His bail is set at $50,000.
The officer was released from the hospital and will be on medical leave for an undetermined amount time.
Only 50K bail? Don’t they only have to come up with 10% to post bail?
That’s exactly what I was going to enter; only 50K!? – and yes, it’s only 10%… that’s what you call liberal leadership, the judge or magistrate probably figured a higher bail wasn’t fair because Jimmy Low-Life would’t be able to afford it.
Our failed “justice” system- Letting a criminal who assaulted and sent a cop to the hospital get out of jail for $5k… You can’t make this $4it up…! This scumbag has no doubt been arrested before. Thanks Joyce Dudley SB County DA
Wha? Isn’t there enough trouble for this guy to get into in his home town of Lompoc?
The “police defunder” must be very happy and proud of themselves !
Shame to them !
Judges and DA are elected. Don’t give them a pass next time.
To all of those who are genuinely concerned and shocked by these events : remember that the current “P.C.” trend is to encourage crimes by NOT punishing them any more , encouraging theft of all sorts (car break-ins and store looting for example) and by publicly hating the police.
This is what you then get. And it is only going to get worse !
SB citizens, please don’t keep taking laws and law enforcement for granted and acting like we all live in a utopian paradise. Please don’t keep parroting the anti-police social media rhetoric. Someday you’ll need an officer. He or she may save you life.
Was a drug test performed at Cottage to see what he, and possibly others were tripping on? On a positive note, there is still a loving God. Peace to all the people serving the tri-county community who wear a uniform for Us. I wonder. Thanks friends.
