The SBCC Foundation announced today that Geoff Green, who has served as CEO of the organization for nearly nine years, has accepted a new position as CEO of the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits). Green will begin his new role in January 2024, and the SBCC Foundation is beginning the search for its new CEO.
Green led the creation of the SBCC Promise in 2016, a groundbreaking initiative that offers all recent, local high school graduates the opportunity to attend SBCC full-time at no cost and relies entirely on private donations. To date, more than 7,000 students have participated.
Under Green’s leadership, the Foundation has thrived and significantly grown its asset base, expanded partnerships with community-based organizations, and most importantly, provided resources that improve access and success for students at the college.
Among the projects and initiatives launched during Green’s tenure were the purchase of the former Paul Mitchell Building in 2016 which now houses the SBCC Cosmetology Academy, the sold-out SBCC Jazz concerts at the Lobero Theatre featuring two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Michael McDonald in 2018 and 2019, the creation of the annual Spring Forward! Gala in 2019, and the first-in-the-nation $2 million student emergency grant program in the first weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization and the college have benefited on many levels from his experience, skillset, connections, and deep knowledge of the nonprofit sector.
“I am proud of our work at the SBCC Foundation,” Green said. “While I will miss it, I know that the SBCC Foundation is in its strongest position ever and has an outstanding team. I’m looking forward to leading CalNonprofits and the opportunity to advocate for and make progress on behalf of all nonprofits throughout the state.”
In addition to his work and achievements at the Foundation, Green has a strong history with CalNonprofits, having served previously as board chair, treasurer, and as a member of its policy committee. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the CA State Assembly’s Select Committee on the Nonprofit Sector.
“We are going to miss Geoff and are extremely grateful for all that he’s done for the SBCC Foundation,” said Madeleine Jacobson, President of the Board of Directors. “His success over the past nine years has meant success for the Foundation, and for the college and its students. We wish him the best in his new position.”
About the SBCC Foundation
The SBCC Foundation has provided Santa Barbara City College with private philanthropic support since 1976, serving as the vehicle through which individuals and organizations may invest in the college and its students.
As an independent 501c3 nonprofit organization and partner to SBCC, the SBCC Foundation provides approximately $5 million annually for the SBCC Promise, student success programs, scholarships, book grants, emergency funds, and more. For 47 years, the resources raised and managed by the SBCC Foundation have supported SBCC students as they prepare for careers, transfer to four-year universities, and pursue lifelong learning goals.
In 2016, the Foundation launched the SBCC Promise, offering all recent, local high school graduates the opportunity to attend SBCC full-time at no cost. The SBCC Promise relies entirely on private support and covers all required fees, books, and supplies for up to two years. To date, more than 7,000 students have participated. By removing financial barriers, the SBCC Promise ensures that SBCC’s life-changing educational programs are fully accessible to all local students.
