Santa Maria Man Dies in Three-Vehicle Collision on Highway 101

A Santa Maria man died in a three-vehicle collision on Highway 101 near Union Valley Parkway on Wednesday. The incident took place around 12:15 p.m. in Santa Maria.

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), the 80-year-old man was driving southbound in his 2007 Honda Civic when he failed to slow down as he approached stopped traffic near Union Valley Parkway.

The Honda collided with the back of a Dodge Durango, which then struck a third vehicle, a 1996 Dodge 2500 pickup truck, as detailed by the CHP.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and provided treatment to the driver of the Honda and two passengers in the Dodge Durango. All three individuals were transported to Marian Regional Medical Center for further medical attention, as confirmed by the CHP.

The 80-year-old driver of the Honda Civic succumbed to the injuries sustained in the collision while at the hospital, according to reports from the CHP. The two passengers of the Dodge Durango, who were also injured in the crash, were released after receiving medical treatment.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff-Coroner has confirmed the identity of the decedent as Ronald Dickerson, 80 from Santa Maria.

The investigation of the collision is ongoing.
