The Santa Barbara Zoo announces a phased approach to safely reopening its doors to the Santa Barbara community. After being closed to guests since mid-March, the Zoo will reopen to the general public on Tuesday, June 23, by online reservation only. Before the official reopening, the Zoo will hold a soft opening for its Members June 20 – 22, also by online reservation only. The soft opening with Zoo members will help Zoo staff observe high-traffic areas, traffic patterns and make adjustments as needed.
Following guidelines set by the State and County, the Zoo has implemented a number of safety enhancements and modifications to protect the health and safety of all guests, staff, and animals. In order to properly manage the number of guests in the park, online reservations will be required for both paid guests and Zoo members. Guests can use the online reservation system to book a timed entry slot prior to visiting the Zoo. A complete guide to the new safety enhancements and modifications can be found on the Zoo’s website.
Guests are also encouraged to consider becoming a Zoo Member now to enjoy early access to the Zoo as early as June 20, click here to sign up online. The Santa Barbara Zoo looks forward to making this a fun and safe experience for all guests, staff, and animals! For more information, visit the Zoo’s website.
The Zoo is also still accepting registrations for Zoo Camp! Summer Zoo Camp is June 22–August 14 and is for children ages 3–12. The Zoo is offering three options for Zoo Camp, including Camp in a Box, FamCamp, and traditional Zoo Camp. See the Zoo Camp page on their website for more information and to register: https://www.sbzoo.org/learn/zoo-camp/.
That’s a shame. I’m sure the animals were happy to have peace and quiet. Can’t wait until this zoo is shut down forever.
Although i get the idea you were trying to get to. The animals currently at the zoo have no way of becoming “wild” again. These animals have to be cared for, money has to be used to feed and make sure they are healthy. Its sad that zoo’s are cages yes, but currently the population of animals in zoos still need care. So would you rather the animals die or are euthanized? Or would you rather locals pay a bit to see them and that money is used for education and food and care for the animals that have no where else to go.
I am so happy the zoo is reopening. I love going there it’s a very beautiful peaceful place.one of the few places in Santa Barbara left from my childhood. And kids seem so happy there. Looking forward to the reopening.
If you watch or follow animal videos on Facebook, Instagram, etc there are dozens of videos from zoos that illustrate how the animals do miss us. it seems we were entertaining them as much as they were entertaining us. There are beings that just love to be the center of attention, and now they have no audience
