A Santa Barbara man died in a solo motorcycle collision on Highway 101 north in Ventura County on Wednesday.
Richard Vincent, 76, was riding a 1991 Harley Davidson around 8:00 p.m. on May 10 near San Padre Juan Canyon Road, north of Faria Beach, reports the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
CHP states Vincent was in the beginning of the new Highway 101 north traffic pattern due to construction in the area. He allegedly veered away from the traffic bypass lane and crashed into a concrete K-rail blocking the construction area.
Vincent was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced deceased by Ventura County firefighters and CHP.
There were no other vehicles involved.
Witnesses are asked to call the CHP Ventura area office at (805) 662-2640.
On May 2, another Santa Barbara motorcyclist died after colliding with a U.S. Mail vehicle in Hope Ranch. Michael Joseph Figone, 45, was also pronounced dead on the scene by first responders.
Local law enforcement is reminding all motorists that May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Drivers should always look twice for motorcycles, checking mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes, not follow riders too closely, and use signals.
Motorcyclists are encouraged to always wear a U.S. DOT-compliant helmet with eye protection, sturdy clothing with reflective strips/decals, and keep lights on at all times. Riders are also encouraged to ride defensively and not assume a driver can see them.
“Motorcycles may be difficult to spot, so be extra careful before changing lanes,” Santa Barbara Police Motor Officer Powell said. “Motorcycle riders do not have the same protections drivers and passengers do. Please share the road with motorcycles and drive safe.”
That traffic bypass lane going north is better than the one that was southbound, but they are both horrible. Please if you’re reading this( Granite construction) please hurry up on your work as this is dangerous!!! Rip Mr. Vincent 🙁
At least one person perished this morning in that same area. Honda vs utility truck…both vehicles caught fire. 101 NB was shut down around 9:30 AM.
