Isaiah Ramirez Alexander Gunned Down Victim at Pacifica Suites Hotel in 2022
Santa Barbara County District Attorney John T. Savrnoch announced that Isaiah Ramirez Alexander, a 36-year-old resident of Santa Barbara, was sentenced to 26 years plus 100 years to life in State Prison by Judge Hill in Department 6 of the Santa Barbara Superior Court.
Alexander was previously found guilty by a jury of 2nd Degree Murder, Shooting at an Inhabited Vehicle, Residential Burglary, and Commercial Burglary.
Alexander was also convicted of various special allegations and enhancements including: discharging a firearm causing death, two out-on-bail enhancements, and having two prior strike (violent offense) convictions.
The charges stemmed from various incidents occurring February 9th through February 14th of 2022.
The District Attorney’s Office states that on February 9th, Alexander burglarized a residential apartment in the city of Santa Barbara. The burglary led to a violent confrontation the next day on February 10th, at Pacifica Suites Hotel in Goleta where Alexander shot and killed 43-year-old Richard Cardona.
The confrontation led to a shootout inside one of the hotel rooms, after which Cardona attempted to flee but was chased down and killed in his vehicle by Alexander.
Alexander subsequently fled the scene, attempted to conceal the murder weapon, and separately disposed of the firearm magazine and ammunition, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Alexander also burglarized the Riviera store and was arrested in possession of stolen property at La Quinta Inn on February 14, 2022.
During the February 9-14, 2022 time frame, Alexander was out on bail on two other cases, where he is still pending charges for carjacking, attempted robbery, vehicle theft, and identity theft.
“Thank you to the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s personnel led by Detective Maxwell for superb work on a difficult investigation and the Prosecution Team led by Senior Deputy Kevin Weichbrod for their work in keeping a violent criminal off of our streets,” stated District Attorney Savrnoch.

Judge Hill does not tolerate crime, especially EXTREME acts of violence. I was getting a 5 year prison sentence at age 20 for drug related crime(s). I saw Ryan in Orange going to court. He had a haunted look on his face, most likely from his crime and knowing what was coming under Judge Hill. Hill was my Judge as well. I have not been in mechanical restraints since 2009 and recently had every single misdemeanor dismissed completely and every Felony changed from nolo contendre to not guilty and Judge Hill was the one who did that for me. Even dropped my 2nd strike conviction from 2009 to a misdemeanor on the record. Don’t kill people don’t hurt people and don’t commit crime is the answer 100%. No sympathy for this killer.
