Santa Barbara Harbor Dredging Delayed Due to High Winds

By the Santa Barbara Waterfront Department

Dredging of the Federal Channel has been delayed due to public safety concerns & predicted high winds and seas hitting this week.

The channel is open now but continues to narrow.  Mariners transiting the area can reach Harbor Patrol on VHF Ch 16 or 12, or phone (805) 564 5530.

  1. The City really dropped the ball this year when they somehow forgot to do the annual fall dredging. They are neglecting their responsibility to our harbor users, especially folks who make a living from it. Imagine of you had a mortgage to pay and you’re stuck in the harbor for days or weeks at a time. Lord knows we have enough City employees who are paid to manage this stuff. Full benefits. Pension plans. Get off your asses, lose the daily latte, and start doing work.

  2. Stupid comment. I could say the same about yours (“armchair”), but let’s go past that. Myself and friends I know who use the harbor to fish, including catching commercial fish to make a living (which means paying your bills, supporting your family, etc) have been landlocked for extended periods this past couple months because – as I said – the City failed to dredge the harbor this fall as they’ve been doing routinely for years. Ok?
