Santa Barbara baseball fans will experience a change of scenery as the Santa Barbara Foresters announce their temporary relocation to Santa Barbara High School for the upcoming 2024 season.
Due to the late rains this spring and insufficient time for field renovations, the Foresters will be moving from their usual home at Pershing Park to Santa Barbara High School’s Eddie Mathews Field on Canon Perdido Street.
Manager Bill Pintard expressed gratitude to the City of Santa Barbara and the Parks and Recreation department for their support in allowing the Foresters to play at Pershing Park since 2017. However, due to the uncooperative weather and the California Collegiate League starting its season a week early, the field renovation could not be completed in time for the 2024 season.
Eddie Mathews Field, named after a renowned Santa Barbara High School alumnus who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978, will serve as the baseball team’s temporary home.
The field offers comfortable seating, a concession stand, and the beloved taco truck from El Camino Catering. Season tickets will still be available as usual, while single-game tickets can be purchased on-site. All games will be broadcast on local radio and available for streaming online through Pointstreak.
While the Foresters consider Pershing Park their true home field, Pintard assured fans that the team will continue to make Santa Barbara proud no matter where they play. The Foresters have won over 1,100 games under Pintard’s management since 1995 and have been a beloved fixture in the community.
“We consider ‘the Perzh’ to be our home field, and it is our desired place to play,” said Pintard, who has won more than 1,100 games as the team’s manager since 1995. “Our fans enjoy riding their bikes down to the magnificent waterfront to catch our games. And we are certainly very grateful to the City of Santa Barbara, especially the Parks and Recreation department and to Santa Barbara City College for providing us a home at Pershing. For 2024, we thank Santa Barbara High School for helping us out and providing us a great place to play.
“No matter where we play,” added Pintard, “we’ll be doing all we can to make Santa Barbara and all of our tremendous fans, sponsors, and supporters proud.”

SBSURFERLIFE – I am too, but not sure it will be more comfortable. SBHS as old wooden bleachers on the 3rd base side and the “Home” bleachers are capable of holding maybe 50 or so spectators. It’s pretty crammed in there. Again though, not knocking SBHS at all (I played there), but for a team with as much of a crowd as the Foresters, it’s going to be a HUGE change. I think San Marcos high would have been better just as far as spectator comfort and access goes.
It will be interesting, but fun to watch!
Really? Of all the local baseball fields, SBHS may be the oldest, but it also has the least spectator capacity and parking of them all. JV pre-season games fill the stands at SB. No disrespect meant at all, but that’s going to be tough to try to cram the fans, food trucks, concessions (no more beer?) and merch tables all in that already tiny space. I’ll still be at the games of course, but I sure will miss walking over a block to the beach after the 4th of July game!
