SafeWise released their annual list of the 50 Safest Cities in California. Safewise utilizes FBI crime data from cities with a population of 10,000 and above to generate and organize their report. The safest cities typically have 13 crimes per 1,000 residents (lower than the national average of 29 per 1,000 residents). Additionally, the safest cities all come in with low rates of arson, murder, and property crimes.
This year, Santa Barbara County cities Carpinteria and Goleta made it onto the list. Carpinteria was ranked 46th with violent crimes per 1,000: 0.80 and property crimes per 1,000: 14.90. Carpinteria was ranked 60th last year.
Goleta came in 49th with violent crimes per 1,000: 1.52 and property crimes per 1,000: 14.48. Last year it was ranked 50th.
