The Santa Barbara City Fire Department conducted a training exercise on State Street Thursday.
Firefighters drove a ladder truck into the middle of the 800 block of the State Street Promenade to demonstrate why a 20-foot fire lane between parklets is imperative to conduct fire operations.
Crews extended the ladder to the top of a three-story downtown building.
Businesses and property owners have until March 8th to comply with the newly enforced fire lane.
