The Sheriff’s Bomb Squad will safely detonate a military explosive device near Sheriff’s Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Sheriff Office’s Public Information Officer Raquel Zick, a resident turned in a military ordnance to the Sheriff’s Office for destruction. The Bomb Squad safely received the ordnance and consulted with the Vandenberg Air Force Base Explosive Ordnance Disposal team who determined that the safest disposal is to detonate it with a controlled blast.
“The controlled blast will occur at the Sheriff’s facility on Camino Del Remedio in Santa Barbara within the next hour and will likely be loud. We are not requesting action be taken by residents- this is information only,” said Zick on Twitter.
As of 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, it’s unclear if the controlled blast took place and what type of military device this is.
This is a developing story.
