At the Santa Barbara City Council this coming Tuesday afternoon, Agenda Item #13 (just before the 711 N. Milpas hearing), the item is a request for $199,000 for “conceptual design services” for the de la Guerra Plaza.
There’s an additional $300,000 “to cover the cost of the consultant, preliminary environmental review, and possible additional archaeological investigations…” Here’s the link to the Council agenda.
Shouldn’t there be a decision first and then design services? Just a couple of weeks ago, there was the open house/workshop eliciting ideas. So far, the range of those ideas have not been presented to the public; nor has the public weighed in on which they prefer; nor has the City Council given their approval.
Public preferences could be done the way Goleta did in surveying Goletans for the naming of the new city park. Everybody interested could participate. Santa Barbarans deserve no less consideration for the center of our city. What’s the rush on this? What do Edhatters think about this project and, specifically, the Council agenda item on Tuesday?
Murillo could put a stop to this nonsense immediately. She is a no-nonsense mayor who is looking out for the greater good of everyone in SB…not only the special-intetest groups and public unions. Just look at the overall improvement of the core downtown area. And not to mention the advances of local school test scores, and more attention paid to senior issues.
It was my understanding that this overhaul of DLG Plaza was due to the desire/need to rid The Plaza of the gangs of homeless (a lot of them younger, rowdier) hanging out on the lawn. I wonder how this “redesign” is going to achieve that goal.
2nd term in the bag !
Why is anyone giving Murillo credit for advances of local school test scores. She has NOTHING to do with the schools or the Board of Education.
No advertising…
Sorry but what world do you live in? ALL she cares about is special interests groups and AUDs. She is see through and even people that voted for her regret it. She has nothing to do with higher test scores at schools..we give those awards to the principal of the school and the teachers.
Looked to me like Cakes and @ 02:50 pm are kidding.
Why don’t they spend 100’s of thousands of dollars and build a fountain in De la Guerra plaza- oh yah they already did that and then tore it down- what a BIG CLOWN Show and big waste of OUR $$$$$$$
It wasn’t a fountain and it wasn’t in the Plaza…was a statue in the adjacent paseo, ergo irrelevant but, don’t let that stop you from conjuring up your own stories.
Trolling is more like it.
And what does bashing Mayor Murillo on credit given for test scores, though popular as it is, have to do with the topic at hand? Might as well be praising ice cream and bacon.
