Carpinteria Councilmember Roy Lee will win the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors 1st District seat over incumbent Das Williams.
The latest election results were released on Wednesday stating less than 100 of the remaining 2,000 votes to count are for the 1st District. If Williams were to secure all of those remaining votes, he would still trail Lee by 444 votes. While the final vote deadline is April 4th, the math favors Lee’s victory.
Williams was vying for his third term as a Supervisor to add to his political career that also included the Santa Barbara City Council and State Assembly. He took to social media on Wednesday afternoon to thank those who voted for him.
“It has been an honor to serve this community for now over 21 years, and I thank you for voting for me at least 9 times and giving me the chance I yearned for all my life: to make a difference for our shared future,” Williams wrote, “We continue to have many challenges as a community, foremost amongst them housing affordability, environmental protection, and flood control. I hope to support any effort my successor makes on these vital needs.”
He thanked his staff and urged supporters not to worry about him as he’ll be supporting his wife’s career and “raising two strong, thoughtful and compassionate girls.” He went on to say, “But please do worry about climate change, and do everything in your power to reduce your emissions and this community’s. Our future does hang in the balance.”
Lee has pledged to listen to every member of the community and stay true to his campaign slogan “Dedicated. Dependable. Honest.”
While Lee has not announced his staff picks yet, he did confirm to the Independent that his campaign manager Wade Cowper will become his chief-of-staff.
The other two County Supervisor races held considerable leads with incumbents Joan Hartmann and Bob Nelson both securing their victories.
Imagine if Donald Trump, Kari Lake, or any of those other slimy Republicans showed such grace.
One less slimy democrat, it’s a win win.
LOL GOLETA – you might want to double check that. You may be in for a surprise haha!
How so? UCSB grad, and democrat . .. bye bye.
I meant Roy Lee. Not sure he’s not a democrat.
Independent. FYI
He’s a Democrat. I’m
not, I voted for him.
You are correct, my error. In any event, anyone is better than Das.
Well said. With most republicans when they lose it’s either rigged or stolen. No class or common courtesy to concede. Just blame.
If he has any marketable skills beyond career politician, he’ll be fine.
He’s supported the marijuana industry and Fire Dept interests enough over the years, I’m sure there’s a job for him there.
Good job, first district!
Goodbye Das – I don’t give a flying F- personally what your party was, although you flew that flag hard. You went for yourself, and shafted your community that you represented (Carp has gotten stunk up with Cannibas scent, right by the high school and your constituents’ homes). You’re done.

Finally — No Mas Das .
Couldn’t be happier.
You can’t please all the constituency but listening is the first step.
Looking forward to see what Lee does.
💯!! So Stoked he’s gone🫡 ✔️
See Ya Das!!!! You will not be missed. You’re not a surfer either I’m gonna burn you AGAIN when I see you flailing in the lineup. Peace out! See ya wouldn’t wanna be ya
Good statement from Das. I appreciate the classy tone and I hope he can stay involved in the community in a positive way.
