I hate crossing at Junipero!
When someone rolls a vehicle on a street like this section of upper State is it solely due to bad driving/speeding? Distracted driving? It wasn’t while driving up the hill, right? I don’t get it.
Probably an SUV. They overturn if you even look at them cross-eyed.
Most of the rollovers do seem to be SUV’s. I guess they don’t test them for ‘sideways’ stability. Since many of them seem to have a high center of gravity, they do seem to roll over more easily than most vehicles.
All of the smaller ones now are uni body designs that was pioneered by VW back in the ’30 s and without their high tech assists roll over easily with the lack of a heavy chassis in the wheel and axle area and no rear differential for weight distribution. The new larger Ford explorer is going back to the rear differential for that reason.
At a party, shortly after SUVs came out, I heard one man tell another, ‘I bought one for [his wife]. She doesn’t pay any attention to where she’s going and I’m afraid she’ll get hurt.’ I remember the incident because what he was actually saying is, “My wife is a dangerous driver, but I don’t want her to get hurt so I’ll buy her a tank to run into other people with when she’s doing something stupid.”
LUVADUCK – what’s wrong with a man wanting to protect his wife?
I don’t k now if they have changed but years ago I read SUVs are on a truck chassis and sort of out of balance when turned into a “car”. Apparently they just took a truck and enclosed it.
