A single-vehicle rollover collision on Highway 154 injured one person and caused significant traffic delays.
At 12:49 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters and a ground ambulance responded to the Windy Gap area and discovered heavy traffic backed up from the collision. After an assessment, one patient was transported to the hospital with injuries.
Both lanes of Highway 154 were closed in both directions to clean up the collision. The roadway is currently open in both directions but delays are expected.
Just dumb. Why? How? Distracted?
Very unsafe roadway, people die every week and little is done about it! Put a K-rail up the center divider and lower the speed limit!. No longer a safe roadway with todays drivers!.
Mechanical failure? Medical emergency? Elk in the roadway?
1. Change speed limit to 25mph.
2. Assign cops to hide and tag speeders.
3. Save lives, make money.
D.O.N.E.
You want the Cops to be very visible…..the purpose is to get drivers to slow down….not to hand out tickets. Even putting a fake Police vehicle, will slow people down…
Our elected state representatives, Hannah Beth Jackson and Monique Limon, should have gotten ahead of this years ago. But all Limon brags about now that she is running to replace Jackson in the state senate is she “protected our coastline”. But left a trail of destruction and carnage on our state highways, continuing K-12 failures and rammed the heavy hand of state mandates down the throats of all our local neighborhoods. Clueless, out of touch and 100% ineffectual. Monique Limon deserved to be rejected at the polls. Why has Hwy 154 not been cleaned up with the highest gas taxes in the country. Where did the billions raised for mental health services under MHSA go. And where is the proof the billions spent on First Five pre-school has improved eventual K-12 outcomes. And lastly, what “coastal protections” have you offered that were not already under the jurisdiction of the Calif Coastal Commission. Your record at every level where you claimed to represent the public has been an umitigated failure, Limon . Highway 154, one of the most glaring failures among many.
it isn’t speeding…. Modern vehicles can easily handle the road at normal speeds— IT’S DISTRACTED DRIVING….!!!
Looks like a Chevy SS, a very powerful sedan with a 415 horsepower corvette engine. Driver must have been hotdogging it too much.
It’s amazing that you all know exactly what happened
I did the math- going 45 mph over the pass from start of 154 to the San Marcos golf course instead of 55 adds 2 minutes. It’s idiots having no grasp of math and thinking they need to pass and go crazy. Or other idiots who check phones on easily the most dangerous place in the county to look down on.
I have Dashcam video of a motorcycle tailgating and then passing me on the right shoulder on 154 today. He then tailgated the cars in front and passed each of the 2 cars ahead of him by crossing the double yellow in front of oncoming traffic. Of course we need a divider on 154! It’ll make people way more attentive. And yes lower the speed limit to 45 so when people speed at least its 10moh slower.
Send it to CHP. They likely can’t ticket since you can’t positively ID someone in a helmet, but they might give the person a talking-to.
We ackshully do have elk in SB County. I’ve seen em in person.
The road is not unsafe at all! It’s the drivers. Throwing millions and millions to solve a problem that doesn’t exist is foolish. If accidents are your beef, are you advocating to lower speed limit on state and federal highways to 55mph? That has proven to be effective and would save far more lives.
“easily the most dangerous place in the country to look down on” By place I assume you mean the inside of moving vehicle of which you are the conductor.
Should we start putting up crosses and shrines like they do in Mexico, more crosses indicating more danger?
It’s not speeds. It’s crowds. Distracted driving is certainly an issue, but the bigger one is too many cars where they start to tailgate each other. Just one of those drivers pushing, agitating, getting too close and next thing you know the front driver is so bothered by the one in back that they’re no longer focusing in front. There are more drivers on the road. The Casino pulls more. But Google Maps shows 154 as a short cut and thus, 1000 cars a day have been taking it as the “Quickest Route” heading North and South. For what it’s worth, 55mph is not too fast.
