Two vehicles were seen driving at very high speeds on San Andres Street on Sunday (July 30) around 5:30 PM . A black SUV was reportedly also speeding through the area near the westside around the same time. The “extra” SUV, reportedly cutting through a gas station, soon returning and running red lights. Also going in the wrong direction on San Andres then disappeared just after the initially reported incident.
Someone brandished a silver handgun at a white Toyota driver, who was apparently chased by the assailants in a white Ford Focus at very high speeds on West Side surface streets, which was reported to SB Police. According to a female witness, “the cars were driving very fast and very close to each other on San Andres.”
Eventually, on the 600 block of West Sola the two main cars came to an apparent stalemate. The first car being chased attempted to make a U-Turn and was rammed by the second car, causing quite some damage. After striking the left front corner of the Toyota LS the aggressors drove to the next block on Sola near San Andres and several occupants temporarily remained in the vehicle before bailing on foot and vanishing.
The apparent agressors in the Ford Focus soon disappeared. SBPD arrived and the small Sedan was already sitting abandoned. One officer said it appeared to likely be a reported stolen car. (unconfirmed)
With heavy damage to the wheelwell, quarter panel and hood, the first vehicle remained on site as PD and CSI performed their investigation. This one is bizarre to everyone involved. Many assumptions could be made, hopefully the truth comes to light. Yet the black SUV and the aggressors were both long gone.
Road rage….riiiiiight….
These poor individuals were suffering from a lack of affordable transportation. A harsh police response is certainly not the answer. Due to the skyrocketing price of transportation we need to take action to ensure no one in our community is deprived of access to a motor vehicle.
Huh, CHIP? Who stole a vehicle here? Your veiled innuendos make no sense.
It’s like stealing bread Sac. If it wasn’t for the hopelessly high cost of living there would be no need to adversely take possession of someone else’s vehicle to survive.
Never mind, I see. But still…. what do you think you are getting at here?
Leave it to CHIP to pass judgment about their cars. Classy, Chip.
This is behavior that is cheered when a member of our tribe behaves in such a way. Charge the cannons, ignore the rifles, win the hill, subdue the enemy. Us against them. Nature seems to have imbued adolescent males with this urge and drive but it is not appropriate in our crowded society. What can we do?
RHS, who cheers this behavior?! Not me or anyone I know.
3:15 a.m. America cheers when John Wayne or Davy Crockett or Sgt. York or the ;actions of similar fictions (Alamo comes to mind) are reported. Charging into death is a common patriotic theme. I suspect you have cheered it as well but maybe not.
Almost every time there is an event where a parked car on my street on the WestSide is struck by someone speeding (pretty much an annual occurrence on the block) the occupants of the offending vehicle get out and run away. Not jumping to racist assumptions about immigration status, but the only time they didn’t run was the white lady so high she tried to but fell down in the street.
“Not jumping to racist assumptions about immigration status, but the only time they didn’t run was the white lady” – Gross. Good ol racist LUCKY.
