Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to a structure fire in Orcutt on Thursday morning.
At 10:28 a.m., crews assisted by Santa Maria Fire Department arrived in the 1100 block of Sage Crest Drive and discovered a single-story residence with visible smoke.
Firefighters discovered the fire was related to a rice cooker. The home sustained damage due to smoke and fire sprinkler water, according to Captain Scott Safechuck.
Residents who were inside the home at the time were alerted by smoke detectors and able to self evacuate prior to firefighter arrival. There were no injuries.
Three adults are displaced and are being assisted by the National Red Cross.
What was the brand and model?
Was it determined to be operator error or equipment malfunction?
I suspect they were “alerted” (not “altered”) by the smoke alarms. Always good to check on your alarms to verify that they are functional.
