Public Assistance Leads to Hit and Run Arrest

Source: Santa Maria Police Department

On Tuesday, June 8, 2021, Santa Maria PD officers responded to a reported hit and run traffic collision. After the initial reported collision, the same suspect vehicle was involved in separate hit and runs in different locations in the city. On June 9th, 2021, SMPD issued a news release with a photograph of the vehicle asking for the public’s assistance with information.

On June 15, 2021 a citizen contacted the police department to forward information on the possible suspect vehicle involved in the previous request for information. The tip led to the location of the vehicle which had been modified in an attempt to avoid detection. Based on the discovery of the vehicle, SMPD officers were able to identify the suspect. Contact was made with Marvin Dennis Sanchez, a 19 year old male from the City of Santa Maria. Charges for driving without a license, misdemeanor hit and run, and failure to possess car insurance were forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office. SMPD would like to thank the public for their efforts as it would have been extremely difficult to solve this case without the support of the community.
