Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Settle in Santa Barbara

By edhat staff

Santa Barbara is getting a bit classier as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly purchased a home in the Santa Barbara area.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who recently left the royal family, bought a private family home in Santa Barbara in early June with plans to put down permanent roots and bring up their one-year-old son Archie, according to Page Six.

“This is the first home either of them has ever owned. It has been a very special time for them as a couple and as a family — to have complete privacy for six weeks since they moved in. They intend to put down their roots in this house and the quiet community, which has considerable privacy. This is where they want to bring Archie up, where they hope he can have as normal a life as possible,” according to a source for Page Six

It’s unclear what neighborhood the couple will be living, although many speculate it’s most likely in Montecito where other celebrities such as Oprah and Ellen DeGeneres, have significant privacy.

  1. Why are these mean spirited people posting negative comments about this? I have never heard any negative things about them, and they have done a lot of work for charities and good causes. Does it make you feel better to (anonymously) tear other people down? How sad for you.

  2. Meghan, Harry & Archie, welcome to the “hood”. SB is a fabulous place to call home. Here’s a couple of tips from a true local….
Be kind, be patient, wait your turn (just like the rest of us), don’t drive to fast, please don’t honk your horn, if you expect “special” treatment you will be disappointed and I don’t want you to be disappointed, I like to think that the “rich & famous” live here because here we are far less interested in how much you’re worth, what you do for a living or who your parents are as we are really only interested in who you are, as people..so be a good neighbor, care about your fellows and someday, maybe even tomorrow we will become friends.

  3. Can’t we show our better side and leave these people alone? For God sakes all they did was buy a home for themselves and their family. Leave them alone and let them live their lives. Close your mouths.

  4. 18,000 ft house…. and they tell the masses to be “Green”… Oh, the hypocracy of the rich and famous… I bet their private gas guzzling jet is hangered at SBA too..

  5. Reported elsewhere this was an $8 million dollar home purchase, in July. Should not be hard to narrow that one down. Good news is they will be paying $80,000 every year in property taxes.

  6. It’d be great if people left them alone. Nothing is worse than the fawning and oohing of celebrities. Well maybe except for the class envy and jealousy that is so prevalent on this site…

  7. Scanning the media articles there is a claim this is in the same “gated” community where Ashton Crutcher lives. But the media hint are all over the place and the purchase price was bumped up to $10 million, not $8 million. If this is what it takes to preserve their privacy, so be it. But at least be sincere and consistent about the demand.
Scanning the media, and the paparazzi fever, reveals locations of so many more “celebrities” that have managed to stay under the radar living here. Thank goodness.

  8. CMKR -local politics suck; but the rest of the package can still work out okay. Hope you keep bringing your own fresh perspective to these pages. You are more welcomed than you might realize.

  9. Why the sudden publicity blast all over the global media if they wanted their “privacy”. A few weeks of getting ignored in their new digs was just too much?

  10. And got a deal, paid 11.1M but it was valued at more than that. Who doesn’t want a thrifty neighbor? How much space do you need for 3 people, a house staff, and a security team? Maybe is not quite so lavish when you think of it in those terms.

  11. With respect, the article is wrong. Their presence her does not make us “classier” unless one is speaking of increasing the distinctions between ordinary people and “royals.” Please remember these two did not earn their wealth or their ability to buy multi-million dollar places. The royal families stole this from the people over ages. Venerating such theft just because it is “tradition” makes one believe that democracy is never really going to work.

  12. Most of us would all love to stop climate change but very few of us have given up our cars or traveling by plane. This couple has the same problem, but to a much greater degree. I don’t fault them for that.

  13. Kwitcherbitchin. They are living authentically & with remarkably positive intention, and support a number of worthy global causes. I bet they’ll be a fun and kind addition to the community.
