Police response to Rite Aid on Cliff Drive Monday night.
Large response, cops going in and out of the store. What happened, a robbery?

It’s coming! There’s going to be more and more of that!
Shoplifting is now excused and often glorified.
People elect D.A.s whose sole purpose is to release as many criminals as possible, as fast as possible.
The next step in S.B. will be the gang ransacking which is customary in S.F. , L.A. and others.
Woke is taking over and that’s the result, and it’s only going to get (much) worse!
FOND – whew! So good to know NONE of what you said is true. Yikes, it really must be terrifying truly believing all the stuff you hear from Qanon, Fox, OANN, etc.
You almost got bingo, just a few more buzzwords were needed.
It’s not “woke,” stop using that word you’re embarrassing yourself. It’s the middle and lower classes bucking the capitalist system that now, more blatantly obviously than ever, is designed to keep people down.
It’s disgusting that these MASSIVE companies are making record profits, yet prices continue to rise and admins and CEOs are paid millions and millions more in bonuses.
We are long overdue for a class uprising.

Blah blah Fox News BS, if you’re so up in arms then you defend the corpos. Notice that these robbers rarely hit small businesses. When I went into that Rite Aid 2 weeks ago there was just a high school kid texting at the register, no doubt making minimum wage. Is he supposed to risk injury or worse defending merchandise? Or even be motivated to stick around for the police report? With these business practices the mega corps might as well put all their cheap trash on the sidewalk with a free sign. Minimum wage = Minimum effort
Sac : I just watch the VIDEO of those crimes and you obviously pretend it doesn’t exist.
But rest assured: it’s only going to get WORSE and even you will have to realize, in the end, what’s happening!
2839: You’re so right! Venezuela, Cuba, N. Korea are such BETTER society: none of those “horrible” capitalists and equality for all: they ALL are poor beyond belief.
Since it is so much better for all over there: why don’t you move there ? You’ll be protected from those “horrible” corporation!
BTW: who invented, designed and produced the digital toy you’re using to post your messages? Russia, Cuba, N. Korea ? I’d love to know!
FOND – have you read a single word I’ve typed here today? Dude…. put down the hate pen for even a second man.
Lmao people shoplift from a store no one cares about and you immediately go into full Fox News Pearl clutching mode ranting about socialism and Cuba bla bla bla. Typical. Nobody cares about corporate stores! The employees don’t care, they’re scraping by on minimum w/ no benefits. The corporations clearly don’t care or they would hire security. The community doesn’t care because the corps put the mom and pop places out of business and the jobs they provide are a joke. The community doesn’t suffer when corps go under, they benefit. People will need a pharmacy regardless and if I need to pay a bit more at a family-run operation then I’ll definitely do that! THAT is free market capitalism, not this monopoly corporate welfare BS.
The one obvious example of regulations favoring large businesses over small ones is the Covid response. Large companies (ie Home Depot, Best Buy, Costco, etc) were allowed to stay open throughout. Small businesses were literally forced to close their doors. VOR is right.
GORDO – what regulation allowed large companies to stay open but required small businesses (of the same type of goods) to shut down?
Chillin, the corps didn’t put mom and pops out of business, government over regulation did – leaving only the large corporations able to complete. Getting a glimpse of the game yet? Big business, with their big bank accounts, pay for lobbyist and donate (buy) politicians, politicians enact more laws and regulations that further burden small business, leading to more consolidation further benefiting big business. Rinse repeat.
“Chillin, the corps didn’t put mom and pops out of business, government over regulation did” – BS. What regulations caused small electronic stores to go out of business once Best Buy came to town? What regulations caused small hardware stores to go out of business once Home Depot came to town? Etc etc. Tell us what “regulations” did all this.
Clearly you’ve never run a small business Sacjon.
Instead of assumptions (which are wrong), answer the question. For once in your life, answer the freaking question. What regulations put small businesses out of business when big box electronics, hardware, sporting goods, pharmacies, etc came along?
Were you not here in California during covid or are you just being argumentative?
“One has the resources to pierce through the red tape, the other does not.” – Yes, via corporate bailouts, low wages with no (or little to no) benefits, low prices, etc. You say big corporations aren’t to blame and it’s all the fault of the “regulations.” I disagree.
You haven’t been following my comments Sac, Big Business is absolutely to blame as they use their resources to lobby, buy (donate to) politicians, and help craft the regulations put in place that, by design, help Big Business further take over business from the little guy (small businesses).
Lol, whatever man. You’re saying the same thing I am and you don’t even know it. Yes, I agree, Big Business IS to blame for the loss of mom and pop businesses. I’ve been saying that all along and you just acknowledged it. Enough though, we’re wasting everyone’s space again with off topic rants.
Ah SAC, most of the time you get it right but not here. This is a symptom of an unjust society, not a cause. Punishing these people will do nothing to address the rampant capitalism eroding our society. Things will only get worse. We need bigger, better action than slapping the petty criminals on the wrists. Problem is, the folks in charge, both by election and by their extreme financial status, are also the ones benefiting from this twisted system. I wonder more and more often when the sh*t is going to hit the fan…this is only the beginning
2:05 – I agree with you…mostly. This coordinated type of theft isn’t the same as a kid stealing food because he/she is hungry. These mass thefts are planned and calculated and should be prosecuted. Stealing is a crime and planning a mass crime should be treated differently so as to deter others. Granted, many are taking advantage of the lower priority assigned to shoplifting, but still… I think this is different and deserves a different approach.
Sac, why not speak on the sins of the capitalists running the show, those that have created this desperation and anger among the people to their own runaway financial benefit? Why not speak on the rampant rich-created inflation in sectors that *only* affect the little guy, the average family, the poor folks, and serve to make the rich richer? Capitalist media has shaped your mind to focus only on punishing your peers and those in social classes below you. It is amazing and so very sad to watch.
It serves us all to open our eyes to the ills of capitalism. Focus on the cause, not the symptom.
2:32 – you’re missing my point and clearly don’t know me at all. I agree with lower penalties for petty theft/shoplifting. But once it becomes an organized crime like this, there needs to be a better way to handle it. I’ve been called a socialist countless times, but never had disappointed in me for suggesting a different approach to handline organized mass thefts.
Screw the corporations, but also….. as a society, we need laws. How much theft are you OK with? Should we legalize theft? From who? “Big corporations” only or do we also allow theft from local bakers or restaurants? Capitalism has been a massive failure for most people in this country, I agree, but that doesn’t mean I’m OK with allowing people to steal from each other.
I’d be interested to hear your proposal on how to allow theft.
“Capitalist media has shaped your mind to focus only on punishing your peers and those in social classes below you. ” – yeah, you don’t know me in the slightest, nor have you paid attention to anything I’ve written here for the past few years. Carry on though……
Bottom line.
Stealing is wrong. Don’t try to justify it because it’s a “corporate store”.
Seriously. There’s always someone with more & someone with less.
So is it ok for a homeless to steal from a low income family bec they have more than the homeless?
This lawlessness stems from the top.
Eject the current politicians.
Elect new
There are some seriously twisted POV’s on this site… When a “Corporate” store like CVS, Grocery Stores, Macy’s, Starbucks etc. lose inventory due to stealing/theft, the ENTIRE community pays the price. Eventually, those “Corporate bad guys” will leave and you will have vacant, non tax paying retail stores…
Please, let them leave. All corporate stores pay minimum wage with no benefits except for a few managers. They drove out small businesses who, by the way, pay far more taxes than corps do with their armies of tax lawyers. Turn empty stores into housing and/or locally owned businesses. Everyone, conservative and liberal, has had it with corporate parasites. GTFO of our town, we don’t buy the whole “we’re job creators, we’re special and deserve boatloads of tax breaks” bullshit. Get out before the guillotines show up 😉
Chillin’ your wish may soon come true. Rite Aid is floundering and will probably file for bankruptcy soon. Whether they then keep the SB and Goleta open will be a fair question. But if they don’t the attitudes displayed on this site by those who defend stealing will be the ones to blame.
4:44am: (imagine waking up that early to be a shill for a multibillion $ corp lmaooo) Shoplifting will be to blame for their business failure? Have you ever been within 100 yards of a business or economics class? Or even a retail job? Those losses barely register for them. They fail because they’re an awful company that treats their employees and customers badly.“Too big to fail” no doubt, here comes Papa Fed with the corporate welfare using our tax money to fund what basically amounts to gambling. Off with their heads, frankly. It’s too late to rectify the situation, our system is bought and paid for. Burn it all down.
Chillin, so who is going to set up an independently owned drug store there if you have your wish?
Sounds like this was one of those mobs of people rushing the place. Is there an enhancement or additional charge available for prosecutors to use to elevate this from simple shoplifting to an organized, mass crime? I don’t think RICO would apply, but there should be something more to nail the people who organize these mass robberies.
Yes, it better represents their interests and prosperity than the big business / oligarch controlled DNC and GOP – it is F’ed and it won’t be un F’ed until we get money out of politics and put term limits in.
My husband and I worked very hard for 40 years a lot of times we each had two jobs. We raised our three children with no assistance from anyone we purchased our house we managed to save money which is enabled us to retire at the ripe age of 70. Who’s gonna justify the thief that came into our yard took furniture stole plants and some of our grand childrens toys. Are we to feel sorry for them as they enjoy our things?
Congratulations! Here’s a medal. Genuinely hope some suit who did too much blow the night before doesn’t tank your retirement funds. Cheers.
Agreed, which is why we need to change the way we’re approaching public education from pre-K – high school. We need to be creating competent, responsible adults for which better alternatives are available than a life of crime.
Where do we shop if all the stores leave. Amazon lol how much more corporate can you get. Low pay barely get your brakes they don’t treat their employees well I know plenty of people that I work for them. We actually need local stores a lot of people especially older people do not shop online. Or Macy’s is leaving so they can put in housing where are the people going to buy clothes that are semi affordable target? Guess it’s back to going to Ventura shopping it’s the older people that I feel sorry for.
You’re right Alex, DNC and GOP are both behooved to their corporate masters, the DNC just throw out some platitudes pretending to care about the little guy, then legislate for big business. Uncomfortable fact is the MAGA movement better represents the common lower and middle class Americans than either the DNC or GOP. Big government only helps big business.
“the MAGA movement better represents the common lower and middle class Americans” – yes, if they’re white.
VOR, if MAGA truly “represents” the lower and middle class of America, then this country is more fucked than it seems.
Small-business owners from coast-to-coast have been arming themselves to protect their businesses from thieves/criminals/shoplifters (one in the same I suppose). Nearly every day you can read about instances and view videos of law-abiding owners and citizens who are fed up with being ripped off and/or having folks ruin their lives. Police across the country are understaffed, overwhelmed, and simply not able to protect people…and often themselves. Robbing a business or person with a toy gun often ends up with dead or wounded “perps.” I don’t think anyone in their right mind wants to be robbed/beaten by losers who think it’s A-OK to steal from a company for paying minimum wage. Some on this board have stated that they think it’s quite funny when “big biz” gets ripped off.
Retrospective: Early 80s. Bryant & Sons. Four thieving angels sent to meet St. Peter at the Poilly Gates. St. Peter: “What brings you here today?” ….Angels (in unison): “Our own poor choices.”
Babycakes, sure they have.
Stop the hysteria.
Alex and Sac we don’t like crime guys. Read the comments. Have you ever got jacked, heisted, or punched in the face for your wallet? Someone invaded your home, stole your car? Or worse?
I get the sense you think your neighbors are panicking and you’re trying to reassure people that SB is alright, no problem, it’s all good. It’s great.
SB is great, but it’s far from perfect. What’s wrong with supporting law enforcement, or for that matter taking a stand in support of the victims of crime rather than the criminals for once?
BASIC – uh…. what? Why are you accusing me of “liking crime guys?” Did you not read any of my comments here about making these mass robberies easier to prosecute?
Basic–derp derp crime.
Stop making dumb stuff up. You must have missed where I posted that “stealing is wrong, we all agree.” I’m responding to unjustified hysteria–like Babycakes claiming that PEOPLE ARE ARMING THEMSELVES NATIONWIDE TO PROTECT SMALL BUSINESS! ACK ACK. OMG!
Fear mongering is lame. Lying about what people say is lame. Try and have an honest conversation for once.
And, yeah SB has real problems. What a brilliant revelation that is.
Sac, some of these people are so full of hate that their vision literally fails while they attempt to read what others are saying.
They can’t see it, no matter what, it’s always “blue team bad red team bad, US GOOD YOU BAD.”.
You write “stealing is wrong”, and some dumb-ass responds with, ‘WHY DO YOU DEFEND CRIMINALS ALL THE TIME?!”
It’s entirely pointless.
ALEX – 100%. It is exhausting.
“They can’t see it, no matter what, it’s always “blue team bad red team bad, US GOOD YOU BAD.”. — apparatenly you can’t see it.
