On Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 9:16 A.M., Santa Barbara Police Officers responded to the railroad tracks located at the intersection of Bath Street and Montecito Street to aide and investigate an assault of an adult female who sustained a serious head injury as a result of a violent attack.
The subsequent investigation gleaned the alleged male suspect was not known to the victim. Santa Barbara Police Crimes Against Persons Detectives took over the priority investigation.
On Friday, October 4, 2019 Santa Barbara resident Leo Burl Butner, age 40, was taken into custody for violation of his parole. Later that day, SBPD Detectives requested that he be arraigned under three felonies related to the October 2nd attack. He was booked on assault with a deadly weapon, battery with great bodily harm, and a great bodily harm enhancement.
Detectives requested that that Butner be held at Santa Barbara County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail. The bail enhancement was granted.
Suspicious circumstances with a subject with blood on him near the railroad tracks at Bath and Montecito Streets. SBPD, Fire Department, and Medic’s are responding.
Request of holding the trains until the victim is removed. Unknown circumstances, or Condition of victim 2nd victim for near Rail Road tracks in a week. First one was near Orange Avenue with Significant facial injuries. This victim bloody assaulted with a weapon. Unknown if the 2 cases are connected.
It’s seems like assaults from tourist are becoming more and more common. Or at least they are being reported more.
Tourist is codeword for transient.
A lot of the homeless are actually vagrants, many of them substance-addicted and/or violent and/or not all there mentally. Naturally they beat each other up and prey on any of the actual homeless whom they consider weaker. Law of the jungle. . . .
