Plant growth ID

By an edhat reader

I grow impatiens on the indoor kitchen window sill and I found this on the sill under a plant. It’s a half inch long. I’ve found them before, but very infrequently. It’s definitely plant, not animal, although at first glance the mind goes to caterpillar. I’ve never noticed anything like this growing on the plants. Does anyone recognize what this might be?
