The little food carts are the bomb diggity. Love the fresh fruit with lemon and spices. Yummy!!!!
They are all over in plain sight, shaved ice and burnt corn on the cob and dirty hands purveying unsanitary tamales. No sales tax, no vendor permit, and are just like the flower vendors standing on street corners who cut into the business of honest floral shops who pay taxes and rent. If the city can get upset about cascarones at Fiesta you’d think they could notice these vendors who are a health and safety ordinance violation. Any business owners who pay for rent and permits and taxes understand that these “entrepreneurs” are being allowed to operate outside the law with impunity. Anyone who has ever gone through the arduous process of meeting the requirements to open a restaurant has to be offended that they are being given a pass . The question is why?
I don’t think they are preying on young children.
They are unregulated scofflaws, but get a free city council pass, just like the scofflaws that now clog the sidewalks during Fiesta selling their cheap junk from China. They are labeled the “most vulnerable” amongt us, but could easily be acting as part of the massive illegal drug distribution network in town. Who knows because they are part of the no-go, hands-off double standard under our current city administration.
@1:04pm. We ALL know why…
Oh please do not get rid of the carts. That corn is amazing! People come running when they hear the horn. I have been eating it for decades and have never ever gotten sick! And they do not prey on children. They are everywhere and everyone knows them in their individual hoods. It is tradition now.
There are a few by Franklin School. They prey on our children offering unhealthy food. The staff has tried to shut them down, but they are still here.
Get the City weak inept Council to ENFORCE the laws rather than sit back and praise dual standard rules: pass for all illegals or people of color. City Ordinance prohibits unlicensed food service without hygiene hand washing and restroom arrangements. Public sidewalks are not for rent. Taxpayers own them. WE THE PEOPLE have been silent too long. City & County will shut down school sport team food service, make Elks get food vendor permits, and turn a blind eye on law violators of color. Don’t ignore facts. File complaints with our layback police as ordered to stand back by globalist DA.
Please temper your arguments and stick to the facts and the issue. This is not about “people of color” or other “strangers.” That sort of argument creates reactions that inhibit people who agree with your position from speaking out for fear of being branded as bigots.
I really miss the lady who used to sell Tamales out of the trunk of her car in the Foodland parking lot. God, those were delicious tamales! I, too, have been patronizing local sidewalk vendors for decades and have never gotten sick.
Making the cash money at the LaCumbre Jr. High at the weekend soccer games. Funk under the finger nails and hacking up a lung. No thanks!
Traditional. If you haven’t had a mango on a stick with lime, pepper, etc., from one of those carts, you haven’t lived….
Too bad it also comes with a side of scofflaw tax and permit cheating. This is their city too and they do use our streets and sidewalks as well as LE to conduct their business operations. Why is “paying your fair share” so selective in its popular application?
RHS you are seeing the obvious. The Pandemic runs much deeper.
