Pedestrian Killed in Gaviota Train Collision

Emergency personnel are responding to a collision involving a pedestrian and Amtrak train in Gaviota.

At 11:17 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the 16000 block of Highway 101, about a mile south of Mariposa Reina. 

Upon arrival crews discovered an adult male had been struck by the passing Surfliner train and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Amtrak reports as of 12:45 pm, Train 761 remains stopped north of Goleta.

Law enforcement and State Parks personnel have remained at the scene.

The incident is under investigation.
