Emergency personnel are responding to a collision involving a pedestrian and Amtrak train in Gaviota.
At 11:17 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the 16000 block of Highway 101, about a mile south of Mariposa Reina.
Upon arrival crews discovered an adult male had been struck by the passing Surfliner train and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Amtrak reports as of 12:45 pm, Train 761 remains stopped north of Goleta.
Law enforcement and State Parks personnel have remained at the scene.
The incident is under investigation.
“a mile south of Mariposa Reina” would be in the Pacific Ocean. The RR tracks run east/west in that area. I think you meant “a mile east of Mariposa Reina.”
Condor- You are correct but usually when those directions are given it refers to Northbound or Southbound side of the freeway. Happy Saturday to you.
