Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Amtrak Train

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a passing Amtrak train near Modoc on Monday evening.

Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the railroad tracks off Encore Road near Modoc at 10:10 p.m. for a reported medical emergency.

Amtrak stated the Pacific Surfliner Train 785 was heading north and stopped due to a “trespasser incident.”

According to emergency scanner traffic, a male in his 20s was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim’s identity has not been released.

Amtrak reported the train arrived at the Goleta station at 11:38 p.m. Monday.
