We had the good luck to take a flight before the next string of storms rolls in. Broadcast Peak was peaking through the clouds to watch us passing. Near the airport is this cliff with lots of little caves – is it on private land? A long zoom pic to one of the Vandenberg launchpads revealed the “audience” of little radar domes waiting for another show.
Any dates yet? The end of Zaca Lake seems to be getting a beach wall and maybe a new building. Anyone know what it will be? Idling on Oceano’s park estuary were these white pelicans. Do they hang out in SB too?

Well, in answer to my question about VAFB launches I just saw a news report that SpaceX did a launch and landing there TODAY! Did any Edhatters go to watch and maybe get pix?

The white pelicans sometimes hang out at Cachuma Lake.
American White Pelicans are uncommon in SB Co. but have been seen at Oceano and Cachuma Lake fairly regularly for at least the last 15 years. Along our coast they started showing to some degree in 2014, a couple prior in 2012 and several sightings in the last couple of years. They don’t interact with our Browns and are here for one thing…fish. The supply at Cachuma is not enough to sustain all of them. Here they’re being seen from the Bird Refuge to Goleta Beach, UCSB Lagoon and Devereux.
Unless it’s under the influence or dropped some gnarly stuff and is reaching that point known as “peaking”.
Good catch Mac, you’re totally right I meant peeking. Funny how what we think can sometimes be so completely different from what our fingers type, eh?

Those are just the eBird hot spots which also include the UCSB North Campus Open Space aka NCOS and Lake Los Carneros or LLC seen at all just in the last 2 weeks. Only seeing 1 or 2 at a time and the Goleta ones tend to move around.
