By the LOSSAN Agency
The Los Angeles – San Diego – San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) Rail Corridor Agency, which manages the Amtrak® Pacific Surfliner® service, has temporarily suspended service north of Goleta for emergency track repairs. Service between San Luis Obispo and Goleta will be suspended for up to 16 days.
Inspections by Union Pacific Railroad and Amtrak crews after the severe rainstorm on January 9 have indicated a need for immediate repairs along portions of the Pacific Surfliner route. Construction crews from Union Pacific Railroad expect the emergency repairs to take 10 to 16 days. To ensure passenger and crew safety, the LOSSAN Agency will suspend all rail service north of Goleta starting on January 12 until the work is completed.
While the tracks are closed, the following trains will be adjusted:
Southbound
- 774 will originate in Los Angeles (suspended between San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles)
- 794 will originate in Goleta (suspended between San Luis Obispo and Goleta)
Northbound
- 761 will be cancelled
- 777 will terminate in Goleta (suspended between Goleta and San Luis Obispo)
A separate track closure required a suspension of Pacific Surfliner train service north of Los Angeles on January 10 and 11 to allow crews to clear debris from the track and complete safety inspections after the severe weather this week. Service between Los Angeles and Goleta will resume January 12.
Tracks also remain temporarily closed in the San Clemente area due to track stabilization work along the right-of-way. A shuttle bus connection is available to passengers between Oceanside and Irvine as a replacement to the train service. Connections are guaranteed. Limited train service is available to and from San Juan Capistrano. Learn more about these travel advisories at PacificSurfliner.com/alerts.
Updated schedules and passenger information will be provided on the Pacific Surfliner website (PacificSurfliner.com/alerts) and Twitter (@PacSurfliners) as they become available.
