Actor Orlando Bloom is mourning the death of his dog Mighty that went missing last week in Montecito.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star made a plea on Instagram posting photos of his dog Mighty offering a reward for anyone with last Wednesday.
On Tuesday Bloom updated his Instagram followers that Mighty has died after his collar was found following a week of searching.
“I have wept more this week than I thought possible, which has been very cathartic and healing… I left no stone unturned, crawled thru all the man holes, under the roads, searched every back yard and creek bed. Had two separate sniffer dogs do their best as well. I feel so grateful to have learned from my little Mighty man that love is eternal and the true meaning of devotion,” he wrote.
He also thanked the community for allowing him to search their yards as well as Dog Days Search & Rescue, an animal search and rescue team based in Simi Valley.
Bloom commemorated his small dog with a tattoo on his chest of “Mighty” and an ace of spades.
And of course the tattoo was done during the Corona virus lock down, when ALL tattoo studios are required to be closed. So because he’s a celebrity he either got a studio to work illegally for him (loss of studio license) or they made a house call (misdemeanor). I’m empathetic with his sorrow, but it is just another example of wealth and privilege.
If the collar wasn’t damaged/chewed off/ showing signs that a predator “removed” it, please tell us. Was the collar found attached to a bush or otherwise wiggled out of? “Mighty,” as an unaltered male, was highly likely to have been on a quest to procreate. He got out from his fenced yard, which is no surprise if there was a bitch in heat within Mighty’s olfactory range. I am hoping this little dog returns home bedraggled and weary from his urgent need to hook up.
Rich shaming people is an ugly, pitiable mindset.
Could be he had a friend or family member who was an artist and owns a tattoo gun. I know a couple people like that. No laws/orders, etc against people giving each other tattoos for free.
The tattoo appears mostly healed. So, timing might be interesting. I’m with Lucky 777 on this one…he could have waited.
Can’t believe the negative here…
He lost his beloved pet !
Probably, didn’t sleep for days.
Montecito, has a wonderful, dog community.
If the collar was found…probably a coyote, or bobcat.
The tattoo comments are ridiculous.
A lot of my friends, non celebrity, are going for hair, nails, at their technicians homes.
Please…be kind
And your post is just another example of pettiness
I think people should mind their own business good for him honoring the memory of Mighty with a tattoo..Some people could afford a comfortable life good for them I’m sure he was not even thinking of the legality of getting the tattoo as much as he was thinking of Mighty…I’m sorry for his loss I know what loss is it hurts..Rest in Peace little Mighty.
The “I think people should mind their own business…” statement is at odds with someone openly posting personal details about their lives on social media.
Sorry for your loss man. No human will ever accept us as completely as our dog.
I was out for a jog over the weekend I and remember coming across a couple signs for a missing dog named Mighty. Then I was looking at my news feed today and saw it was Orlando Bloom’s dog. What a small world. Hopefully we all see our beloved furry friends on the other side. Rest in peace Mighty
Always tough to lose a loved one. Fur baby lives are much too short.
Our pets touch our hearts in a way no human can. They offer true unconditional love.
My heart goes out to Orlando and Katy. I am so sad for them. I have a small dog too, I can tell you I never felt this way about a dog, she is a very big part of our lives. I would never stop looking either for her if she was lost. I don’t even let her out in the backyard at night because of owls, and I’ve seen coyotes in the neighborhood and know they could jump a wall.
I see the mean people are on again. Always negative if your not their friend or agree with them.
The reason for the downbeat/critical comments are many: First this seems likely to be a act of a PR person. Even if it is true that the dog is missing it need not be exploited like this and would not be given such attention if there wasn’t someone putting this stuff out there. Second we don’t know that the dog is dead. Could be there will be more installments on this as it is exploited. Third, the tattoo thing is grossly suspect. As noted people cannot get tattoos legitimately now and this one does look quite well healed. Fourth, the exploitative nature of these updates is saccharine. I have lost pets and never have I thought it worth describing my sorrow to the world at large.
I’m embarrassed for some of the people posting here. I actually met Orlando and his dog at the beach once, and I assure you his love for that dog is real. I’m pretty sure that anyone with a public profile and someone dear to them missing would use that profile to spread the word and increase the chance of said loved one being found, If it were me, and then after all that my dog was found dead, I would really wish I hadn’t had posted anything because I’d want to mourn in private. Where could he go from there in grief that was no doubt deep? He’s just dealing. It’s so startling to me when anyone judges how another grieves.
As much as I dislike giving excessive and unnecessary tribute, attention, glory, etc to something ordinary just because it happened to a famous person, Mr. Bloom is a human being still. At first I thought this was silly, UNTIL I took a minute and realized, rich/famous or not, he is hurting. I’m sorry for that. These negative comments are probably hard to read for him. Save the celebrity bashing for when they get front page coverage just for buying some shoes in Solvang or something. Losing a pet hurts SO MUCH, whether you’re rich or poor. Sorry for your pain, Mr. Bloom, I know it all too well.
