Pop-star and lead in the musical “Grease,” Olivia Newton John, passed away at her home on Monday at the age of 73.
John’s family announced her death in a social media statement saying she “has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer.” For many years she owned a 12-acre estate in the Santa Ynez Valley near the river, although additional details were not immediately known.
She was first treated for breast cancer in 1992 and 25 years later, in 2017, she announced it had returned and metastaszied. She later revealed that she had been privately battling the disease’s return since 2013.
Since her initial diagnosis, Newton-John had become an advocate for cancer research and awareness, as well as for environmental causes. She started the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Center at Melbourne’s Austin Hospital and dedicated much of her creative work to the cause.
John, a native Australian, is best known for starring opposite John Travolta in the 1970s musical hit “Grease” as Sandra Dee. She followed with five No. 1 hit singles— “I Honestly Love You,” “Have You Never Been Mellow,” “You’re the One That I Want,” “Magic” and “Physical” — won four Grammy Awards, and was named Australia’s all-time most successful solo music star.
Newton-John is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; a sister; and a brother.

I didn’t think so.
ONJ had a huge “footprint” in our local area. I believe that she had a horse ranch in the SYV off of Figueroa Mountain Road. Every person who I know who met her professionally/socially said that she was a real sweetheart. Not sure if she moved to our area at the same time a John Travolta, but I think they lived here concurrently. Most true SB locals are not “star struck” when they see most true celebrities. Not the phony Kardashian or “Royals” type celebs who are famous for being famous and having HUGE carbon footprints whilst telling everyone else they cannot eat any cake because they want to eat all the cake.
Even back in the day when Charlie Chaplin was running around our area no one bothered him. If I were a celebrity, I would be nice to people, fly regular schlub class, sign autographs, and buy my fans cake.
