The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the death of an inmate. At approximately 7:50 p.m. on January 5, 2019, 52-year-old Jose A. Curiel of Santa Maria was transported from the Santa Barbara County Jail to a local hospital due to a medical condition. He was hospitalized and treated for an ongoing medical condition. At approximately 7:00 p.m. last night, January 10, 2019, Mr. Curiel passed away from complications of his medical condition.
Mr. Curiel was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail on February 20, 2018, for domestic violence, criminal threats to terrorize and stalking offenses. He was also booked on two outstanding warrants.
Next of kin was by his side at time of death.
