Samuel Bobes, 83, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2020, at Serenity House, in the care and comfort of his wife, Toby, and their 3 devoted children Carla Kuklinsky, Julie Mullaney, and Joanne Bobes.
Born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, he was the son of Celia and Jacob (Jack) Bobes, and is survived by his older sister, Shirley Stern. His favorite role was being “Opa” to his 4 grandchildren, Conrad, Stefan, Maddie, and Ronan. Norm had a special bond with his son-in-law, Roy Kuklinsky. Norm loved to play racquetball and squash, and tennis with his daughters when they were teenagers. He had a competitive spirit on the court and enjoyed the camaraderie with his buddies and daughters. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing trips and going to the horse track races on occasion. In his later years, he enjoyed walks on the beach.
Norm attended Ohio State University where he met Toby, and they shared an exciting life of 58 years. Norm earned his medical degree at Ohio State University and went on to do an internship at Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Norm served honorably in the United States Air Force in Vietnam as a medical officer and received the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service. Following his military service, he had a medical residency at USC County Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. Norm then started a practice and was in the Los Angeles, CA community for 27 years. He was Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and served as a board member and as Chairman of the Board for Century City hospital.
Upon retirement from medical practice, he became Chief Medical Officer for Tenet Health Care for 2 years. He then retired in Santa Barbara, CA.Throughout his illustrious career, Norm was loved by his patients and by all those with whom he worked in the Los Angeles community. He had the unique ability to immediately engage and be attuned to his patients and colleagues. Norm was gentle, caring, kind, and humanitarian throughout his life. He will be dearly missed by his family. In his memory, donations may be made to the Serenity House, 930 Miramonte Drive, Santa Barbara, CA, 93109.
