Update by Santa Barbara Airport
In the days before the COVID-19 pandemic became a reality back in March, Santa Barbara Airport (SBA) and Alaska Airlines made the tough decision to postpone the announcement of new daily air service to San Diego from Santa Barbara. In the months since, the airline industry has dealt with the loss of all but essential air travel.
Yet, Santa Barbara Airport and Alaska Airlines are confident in the recovery of air travel in the months ahead as we combat the coronavirus. In that spirit of optimism, Alaska and SBA are announcing the start of direct daily air service between Santa Barbara and San Diego International Airport on November 20, 2020. Alaska Airlines already offers daily service to Seattle and Portland.
Flight time between Santa Barbara and San Diego is only one hour. “For anyone in Santa Barbara, traveling to San Diego has meant a miserable 6-8 hour drive through Los Angeles. But now, one of the best locations for both business and leisure is within reach,” said Airport Director, Henry Thompson.

Wonderful. Leave a mild COVID19 community for a hot COVID19 community and then come back to us.
Let’s hope that if coronavirus is not gone by then that they take some actions to at least screen passengers for covid-19. You know, questionnaire, temperature, prepare for contact tracing. Like what is done everywhere else in world except the USA.
If they do not do that, I wont be flying, even if free. Boycott airlines that put your life at risk.
That descent into the SD airport is an adventure. Hills and a short runway. Enjoy!
