NOAA Ship Rainier Surveying Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary

Source: NOAA

NOAA Ship Rainier recently arrived off the Santa Barbara and Ventura coast to complete hydrographic surveys at NOAA’s Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. Over the next month the 231-foot ship will deploy multi-beam and side-scan sonar to support safe navigation and update nautical charts for the Channel Islands. In addition to providing data for crucial nautical chart updates, this survey will also generate backscatter data, which will be used in habitat mapping. Learn more and find survey updates on Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and NOAA Coast Survey Facebook pages.
