Update by edhat staff

A single engine plane crashed near Santa Ynez Airport Thursday morning with no injuries reported.

Santa Barbara County Fire crews responded at 10:43 a.m. for the report of a plane crash. They discovered the plane lost power while taking off from the airport and landed in a field after crashing through a fence. Captain Dave Zaniboni reported the plane was 50 feet in the air before it lost power.

There was only one passenger in the plane, the pilot, who was able to self-extricate following the crash without injury. The plane is described as a small Glasair experimental aircraft. It sustained damage following the crash as well as a small fuel leak.

The FAA and NTSB will be towing the plane to a hangar for their investigation.
