New Phone Scam Claiming to be Sheriff’s Office

By an edhat reader

A fraud who claimed to be Lt. Mike Perkins from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) is calling locals, threatening arrest for a “warrant” that doesn’t exist, and asking for payment over the phone.

They have a phone number that is listed out of Lompoc, but we all know how easy it is to spoof a number. The phone number is still active, and there is a message claiming to be Lt. Mike Perkins, the Sheriff’s Office has confirmed this is not Lt. Mike Perkins.

The number is still active and is answered by the fraudster at 805-742-8195 Just a friendly head’s up to locals.
