Nearly 9 Acre Brush Fire Contained in Cuyama

Santa Barbara County firefighters contained an 8.7-acre grass fire in the Cuyama Valley on Wednesday afternoon.

At 1:41 p.m., crews from the newly opened Fire Station 27, Los Padres Forest Service, and Air Support Unit responded to the 5000 block of Highway 166 and discovered a grass fire near an agricultural area.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and prevent any structure from being threatened.

Initially believed to be only three acres in sizre, a GPS mapping tool showed 8.7 acres total were burned.

The cause is under investigation.

Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Scott Safechuck stated, “Fire Season is here. Maintain you defensible space  around your residence.”
