Dear Edda,
My girlfriend’s cat doesn’t like me. I’m not much of a cat person, but I’m really trying my best. Whenever I go over there, the cat jumps out from behind the door or something, and bats at my feet. My girlfriend says this means she is trying to scare me away. When I sit down, the cat sits in my lap and lets me scratch her ears. She even makes a purring sound. My girlfriend says she is being dominant and trying to keep me in one spot.
After we go out for dinner, I am not allowed to come into the house because it will upset the cat and keep her up all night. My girlfriend says I will never be able to spend the night there. I have tried bringing treats and toys, but my girlfriend takes them away and says that they are not good for the cat.
Like I said, I am trying my best to make friends with the cat, but nothing seems to work. What should I do?

Dear Wannabe,
I’m not sure how to say this nicely, but it sounds to me like it’s not the cat who doesn’t like you. Consider getting a dog and moving on.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add this — the cat really is trying to kill you. Cats are like that. Really. They are.
