Multiple vehicles were struck by a hit and run driver on Highway 101 northbound near Montecito Monday morning.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) received numerous reports around 8:00 a.m. for a Ford F250 truck striking vehicles on the freeway and attempting to leave the scene. The driver reportedly exited Highway 101 and got back on the freeway before leaving the truck and running on foot.
Witnesses who were working on a nearby construction project followed the suspect were able to detain them until CHP arrived.
Roger the Scanner Guy states there were minor injuries reported at the scene and there may have been ten vehicles damaged.
Scanner traffic also suggested the driver was intentionally crashing into other vehicles.
Multiple hit and runs, at least ten victim vehicles from Padaro through Montecito on Highway 101 Northbound.
Rex, since the presently correct way to refer to someone whose gender is not known (or sometimes even when it is) is “they” not “he” or “she”. That, of course, applies here, since “they” would be the subject of the clause and therefore the object, “were able to detain __” would be “them”. Fwiw: I am not sure if the verb following “they”, when “they” is one person, is single or plural: “They is…” does grate on at least my ears. …end of grammar exposition. 🙂
Someone said the truck was stolen…. have not confirmed that yet
Sorry, Rex, “they” is now correct. Takes time to get used to, not ever going to roll off the tongue for sure.
Bird, I think it does take a plural verb. “They were driving erratically.” That’s just one person doing the erratic driving.
Since this was in/near Montecito maybe he was making sure they were keeping their privilege in check.
Thank you MTNDRIVER and BIRD. Me keep forgetting that what they is used to don’t matter no more when she come to “English.” Dumbing down good!
Suspect vehicle a Ford F250 Platinum colored pick up truck..
The CHP incident page has alot more information there may be more than 10 vehicles..
I heard the beginning of the call and heard non injury but there might be other injuries there were so many vehicles, CHP on it.
There are several injuries I heard they are minor and hope they stay that way…
John Palminteri posted pictures about 2 hours ago, (around 9:30am) , and said the driver was caught. copied his comment :::: ” Multiple vehicles wrecked by out of control truck driver. Hwy 101 Carpinteria and Summerland. “Rolling triage” by Carpinteria Fire. CHP and Sheriff have driver. ”
Ford Super Duty, that’s one tough truck.
Forget the guns, the real deadly weapons to watch out for are the cars and trucks. What, did we all just become bicycle riders or what?
“Witnesses who were working on a nearby construction project followed the suspect were able to detain them until CHP arrived.” //////// “Them?” How many were there?
