A number of Santa Barbara’s citizens had bit parts in the movies that were produced by the “Flying A.” The movie “Green Apples” that was exhibited in cinemas here in October 1915 featured a group of local boys who played “newsies” – boys who sold newspapers. The filming took place during the summer vacation, and was a big event when it was shown here.
The local paper wrote, “A large crowd laughed and laughed at the antics of the Santa Barbara youngsters in . . . ‘Green Apples’ at the Palace last night. The boys do very well, and have followed the director carefully. The story contains one good scene after the other.”
