Movies Way Back When: A Cricket Conundrum

In addition to the animals that lived at the “Flying A” corral, the studio sometimes needed other members of the animal kingdom.

“Director Lorimer Johnston wants a real live cricket and, if one does not voluntarily come along, he will send the entire cowboy force out to lasso one. If that fails, he will advertise.”
– Santa Barbara Morning Press, December 31, 1913.

(The cricket was needed for the studio’s production of “The Cricket on the Hearth.”)
