Update by edhat staff

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife continues to search for a mountain lion spotted near Dwight Murphy Park and East Beach.

There have been several sightings on Saturday and Sunday but the latest was reported (below) by Roger the Scanner Guy. A newspaper delivery person reportedly saw the cougar on Por la Mar near the El Escorial Villas. On Saturday it was reportedly seen by the softball field at Dwight Murphy park and the Hyatt hotel.

Any further information will be reported as soon as it’s available.

  1. My husband is the Newspaper Carrier for Por La Mar. Saturday morning we were not allowed entrance to deliver the papers until after 9am. We get there every night between 3am – 4am. The Security Guard on duty got a picture of it. I respectfully drive slowly through the complex, you never know what may be out there. We see foxes, rabbits, cats on a regular basis. Sunday morning the Guard told us to enter at our own risk & to keep an eye in the trees. My husband saw it at the West end of the pool area. It was sitting on a wall just staring at him. He rushed back into the 100 building till they escorted him out. So people, please be safe & very aware of your surroundings. Also, please have patience, you will get your paper 😉

  2. I got that call too about a week or so before that my cat came flying in the house scared shitless peeing all over the place. Like father like son…I thought there was something big out there but did not see anything at the time.

  3. Years ago I was driving early morning on a mountain road. rounding a slow curve, appearing in the not so far distance, a mountain lion sunning itself in a sunny patch of the road. I hit the brakes and locked the doors (?!). It looked casually looked at me, stood up, yawned and stretched – exactly like a house cat – then sauntered off the road. Way before phones with cameras etc.. Beautiful.
