A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries in a collision with two vehicles on Highway 154 Sunday afternoon.
At 2:39 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded where the highway intersects with Foxen Canyon Road in Santa Ynez.
Crews learned two vehicles and a motorcycle had collided. A bystander was performing CPR on the male motorcycle rider who was later transported to Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital by a ground ambulance.
There were no other injuries reported.
The collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Not entirely certain but believe I heard radio traffic indicating the victim was 11-44 upon arrival at the ER.
I also heard it was a fatality.
This is horrible news. That intersection is the site of MANY collisions and they still will do nothing to address the danger.
Why can motorcycles legally pass on the lane lines at any speed and put everyone else at increased risk for a collision?
How do you know this is what happened?
In case anyone else didn’t know what “cager” meant, here’s the definition, “According to Urban Dictionary, “cager” is a term coined by motorcyclists for drivers of four-wheeled vehicles. It’s often used in a derogatory way because a cager isn’t willing to share the road with motorcyclists.” I had assumed from the post that it meant the opposite, a motorcyclist.
It is almost certain that it is a cagers fault as with 90%+ of motorcycle accidents. Don’t be a dbag and use your signals
That has nothing to do with this accident. There is no way for a motorcycle to legally pass a vehicle at this intersection. Motorcycles are only allowed to pass via lane splitting between two lanes going the same direction, that doesn’t exist at this intersection.
Did the motorcycle rider have a heart attack that led to the crash or did the crash cause the heart attack? Either way, a motorcycle crash into another vehicle or two at highway speeds is not good.
Drove by the scene after the first responders got there. Did not look good. I hope he pulls through. Such a dangerous stretch there, especially with hundreds of tourists up there at Los Olivos getting on and off the side roads this weekend. Hopefully they put in a stop sign or two in that area now that it’s become such a weekend hotspot.
Seabird: That’s why I said I wasn’t certain. When EMS got to him, he was not breathing and in heart arrest. They defibed him and put in two IVs; this after CPR, so it seems that he did make it to the hospital alive. While they were transporting him, there was CHP unit traffic that mentioned ’11-44,’ but only heard part of it, and no such was posted in the incident log. In any event, it is great that he made it to the hospital alive, and hopefully will recover
The rider did pass away from this accident. I hope Mr. Pigman, the offending car’s driver, does get sited and convicted for his offense of putting others in harm’s way. The motorcyclist paid the ultimate price for this.
