The Sheriff’s Office is releasing the identity of the motorcyclist who died in the traffic collision last Friday. The decedent is 58-year-old Daniel Harris of Goleta. This investigation remains ongoing.
At 3:54 p.m. [Friday], Sheriff’s deputies along with County Fire and AMR responded to the intersection of Cathedral Oaks Road and King Daniel Lane on a report of a traffic collision involving a white Dodge truck and a white Yamaha motorcycle. The collision caused the motorcycle to catch fire, which then spread to a nearby tree. Within minutes of arriving on scene, first responders pronounced the motorcyclist deceased and the fire was extinguished.
Prior to the collision, the motorcycle had been traveling eastbound on Cathedral Oaks Rd and the truck was traveling westbound on Cathedral Oaks Rd. The investigation is ongoing, but it appears the Dodge pickup truck turned left toward King Daniel Lane in front of the motorcycle. The driver of the truck remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators. Cathedral Oaks Rd was closed for several hours while investigators with the Sheriff’s Major Accident Response Team collected evidence and conducted further investigation.
The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending notification to next-of-kin. This investigation is on-going, and the identity of the driver is not yet available for release.
Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact Senior Deputy Jeff Farmer at (805) 961-7514 or by email at jlf3077@sbsheriff.org.
At approximately 3:37 p.m. this afternoon it was reported that a motorcyclist crashed into a tree at King Daniel Lane and Cathedral Oaks, with a fire involved.
At 3:47 p.m. County Fire on-scene reported the victim was 11-44, deceased. Initial reports were that the motorcycle collided with a gray pickup truck, but this hasn’t been confirmed.
Deputies are on scene of a fatal vehicle accident in Goleta- Cathedral Oaks at King Daniel. Roadway will be closed UFN: Cathedral Oaks from Evergreen to Placer. Please take alternate routes.

“Either way”? Either way…WHAT? You should clarify, because right now it seems like you’re implying his life is worth less because he was arrested 2 years ago. Why do you find it necessary to parade this unrelated connection you’ve found?
Is this the same guy killed on motorcycle in goleta a couple days ago?
“early morning hours of 11/19/2018, members of the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Bureau and the Goleta City Police served a search warrant in the 300 block of Ellwood Beach Drive, which was related to a narcotics sales investigation. During the search warrant, deputies located over an ounce of methamphetamine, half an ounce of heroin, and other items indicative of narcotics sales. As a result of the investigation, 56-year-old Daniel Lee Harris of Goleta was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and heroin for the purpose of sales. Harris was later booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail and he is being held on $35,000 bail.”
Whoa 4:24, take a deep breath. It could mean that he was under the influence but regardless of a possible DUI its a crappy way to die.
All lives matter, we are just curious if this same guy. Maybe he got.clean and was on the right side of the law since. RIP daniel..
SEABIRD you’re absolutely right of course. But we are in the Era of “Despicable Me”. With Glorious Leader dragging moral standards through the muck and mire it’s no wonder ordinary folks are just parroting and mimicking.
