Santa Barbara Police engaged in a pursuit of a motorcyclist on Milpas Street resulting in a crash and significant injuries of the rider, according to reports.
Near the intersection of Milpas and E. Montecito Street, a motorcycle collided with a vehicle around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The motorcyclist was traveling east on Canon Perdido Street when a traffic safety officer observed a traffic violation. The officer attempted to stop the motorcyclist, who then failed to yield initiating a police pursuit, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.
An edhat reader reported the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed down Milpas Street and had nearly collided with a vehicle during the pursuit. Apparently due to safety reasons, the officer terminated the pursuit after following the rider for six blocks.
Ulitmately the motorcyclist did collide with a vehicle and sustained serious injuries, although they are not believed to be life-threatening.
The incident is under investigation by the Santa Barbara Police Department.

A motorcyclist was driving at a high speed down Milpas, nearly sideswiping my granddaughter car. She heard police sirens, and pulled to the side as two police cars pursued the cyclist. Near Milpas and Montecito, the motorcyclist crashed the motorcycle.
My granddaughter was moving away from the accident and noticed the motorcyclist on the ground and blood pooling around him. She was shaken up.
Stupid is as stupid does. The guy likely traded a traffic ticket for life threatening or permanent injuries.
I hope the idiot learned his lesson, and there’s no reason that after he is discharged there shouldn’t be a ticket waiting for him in the mail.
Quit engaging in high speed pursuits in heavily populated area, please. No TRAFFIC VIOLATION is worth a high speed pursuit. This time they hit a car, next time it could be your kid in a crosswalk.
So just do whatever you want. Because cops will stop engaging.
Screw that
So, what happened to the AH? – Who is he? What were his priors? What were his injuries? Is he still in the hospital? What are his charges? Jeezers, how about some info on this ….
