A motorcycle collision sparked a vegetation fire on Harris Grade in Lompoc on Monday.
At 6:08 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the intersection of Rucker Road and Harris Grade in Vandenberg Village.
Crews discovered a motorcyclist with major injuries. The rider was transported by ground ambulance to the Lompoc Airport and was helicoptered to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.
It took about thirty minutes for firefighters to stop the forward progress of the grass fire. Captain Scott Safechuck stated prior knowledge of an access road assisted in firefighting efforts.
The vegetation fire is estimated to be under two acres. Crews will remain on the scene to mop up.
