On the first week of work to improve Mission Street from Highway 101 to State Street, there were traffic tie-ups and delays. It is something drivers and pedestrians should expect for the next three months.
Visually impaired pedestrians report the crosswalk at De la Vina and Mission Street near the Braille Institute no longer has a working audible crossing device. It usually indicates when they can walk. Until it is fixed they have to guess based on the sound of the cars. Granite construction worker Chad DeWitt was on a project there and took time to help a woman get through safely. But the rest of the time, day and night, it’s dicey.

If it is like the 101 project, it will take 4 years to finish. But it seems very poor planning to remove the street crossing indicators for the visually impaired in the vicinity of the Braille Institute. Is this the same staff that mismeasured the street width for the Anacapa parking garage, resulting in the unplanned elimination of on-street parking in that area? Or the ones that told the City Council that adding a bikelane on Micheltorena would be easy and cheap?

So much time is spent in transition. About 40% of all time on site.
Arriving, unloading, take break, work an hour, lunch, work 2 hours, break, pack up and leave.

Velly smart people those Germans..they can put down those cobblestones macht snell. I witnessed them paving an airport apron while our flight was boarding in Frankfort and they emptied the lone bobtail dump and and took a 10 minute beer brake before the next load arrived and we taxied away. Granite guys don’t get as many breaks….they have more trucks.

Oh yeah, it’s the same group. They also like to pretend that they’re using gas taxes to repair all the torn up roads about town. Several of which are now so bad that paving won’t be enough. Roads will have to be dug up. It’s all just a roundabout at city.
